Genetic Testing

What It Is

Genetic testing for men analyses genetic material and sperm-related characteristics in order to identify factors that may affect fertility. This category may also include specialised tests such as sperm vitality testing, which assesses whether sperm cells are alive and viable.

Why It Is Performed

These tests are used to identify genetic or cellular factors that may contribute to reduced fertility or unsuccessful reproductive treatment attempts.

When It Is Recommended

Genetic testing may be recommended in cases of abnormal semen analysis results, suspected male factor infertility, repeated unsuccessful IVF attempts, or when a more in-depth assessment of sperm quality is needed.

How It Is Performed / Preparation

Most tests are carried out using either a semen sample or a blood sample. Preparation depends on the specific test, but in many cases includes 2 to 5 days of sexual abstinence beforehand.
