SDI Test (DNA Fragmentation)

What It Is

The SDI test (DNA fragmentation) is a specialised investigation that assesses the degree of DNA damage in sperm cells.

Why It Is Performed

This test is used to determine whether the quality of the genetic material in sperm may affect fertilisation, embryo development and pregnancy outcome.

When It Is Recommended

The SDI test may be recommended in cases of male factor infertility, repeated unsuccessful IVF attempts, recurrent miscarriage, or abnormal semen analysis results.

How It Is Performed / Preparation

The test is performed using an ejaculate sample, usually collected after 2 to 5 days of sexual abstinence. Preparation is similar to that required for a standard semen analysis.
