ENDOMETRIOSIS
ENDOMETRIOSIS
In women who suffer from endometriosis the cells that make up the endometrium also grow outside the uterus, e.g. in the Fallopian tubes, the ovaries or the pelvis. These cells are shed during menstruation but when they are found outside the uterus, they detach and bleed but cannot be excreted. This results in pain and can lead infertility. Endometriosis is also known to negatively affect the outcome of assisted reproduction and that is why it should be treated before assisted reproduction is undertaken.
