CAMPAIGN „DREAM WITH DESI“- WHEN THE STARS DREAM WITH YOU!

It’s time to announce the winning couples in our joint campaign with actress Desi Bakardjieva.

The actress from the series „Stolen Life“ Desi Bakardjieva joined the „Dream with Desi – When the Stars Dream With You“ charity campaign organized by New Life Clinic. The start was given on  March 1, and the winners who will receive an in vitro procedure with stimulation included and an in vitro donor egg procedure with a 50% discount were selected on the day of Cvetnitsa, „I was looking forward to reading the emotional stories of couples with reproductive problems because they are a real treasure for my heart. Each letter is a little inspiration, and I sincerely share the emotions of families and what they really want most. On the verge of one of the brightest holidays – Easter, I want to send to all the message that they have to believe in the power of dreams, to not give up and always make the first steps. This is the most important thing – the first steps towards their dreams and desires. If you do that, the wheel turns and everything goes in the right direction. We chose to announce the end of the campaign at a time when we are all together, getting better, united and taking over the magic of the Easter spirit, „said Desi Bakardjieva. In early May, winners will be handed a certificate for the procedures in the New Life campaign. „It was not easy to choose the winners. We read the letters very carefully, discussed them with the New Life team and decided that these were the two most inspiring letters that really touched us, the actress said.

The names of the two couples who will get the chance to fulfill their dreams are:
  1. M. Sirakov from Plovdiv
  2.  R. Dimitrova from Bourgas .

Thanks to everyone who took part in the „Dream with Desi“ campaign. We are always at your disposal when you need our help!

ANNUAL PHYSICAL EXAMS AND WHY YOU SHOULDN’T SKIP THEM

ANNUAL PHYSICAL EXAMS AND WHY YOU SHOULDN’T SKIP THEM

Many diseases are asymptomatic for a long time. The only way they can be diagnosed early is your annual physical exam performed by your family doctor. If you’re Bulgarian and you pay your health insurance, getting an annual checkup is not only your right but also an obligation.

WHAT DO THEY INCLUDE?

Roughly, the exam consists of patient history, getting your weight and blood pressure measured, an electrocardiogram, blood tests (complete blood count), and a urine test with test strips.

If you fall into a risk group for a given disease, you are eligible for a secondary checkup by your GP. High-risk patients will be referred to a specialist (cardiologist, endocrinologist, etc.) , which is mandatory. At the discretion of the GP, you may also be given a referral for other tests, such as blood sugar and TSH.

People in certain age groups are eligible for even more tests. This is the PSA test for prostate cancer in men over 50  and a mammogram for women over 50.

CHECKUPS AT YOUR GYNECOLOGIST’S

It is advisable for every woman to visit her gynecologist once a year. The doctor will perform a pelvic exam, an ultrasound, a Pap smear, and an STI test. It is important to get examined each year because many gynecological issues like cervical cancer are asymptomatic but highly treatable at the beginning. The lack of treatment of some infections may be a cause of infertility.

PROPHYLAXIS AND THE BULGARIAN

The annual physical exam in Bulgaria is mandatory. Missing it will cost you up to 100lv and deprivation of your healthcare insurance rights for a month.

Unfortunately, a large part of the Bulgarian population regularly misses their annual exams. Many people believe that you shouldn’t go to the doctor unless your symptoms are severe. Until then, a lot of people rely on home remedies. Another impediment is the perception that the exam is associated with many extra costs. In fact, you only have to pay the consumer fee.

Prevention is much more effective than intervention. It is always better to go to your annual physical exam and find out that you are healthy than to postpone it until it is too late.

OVER-EATING DURING PREGNANCY

The assumption that pregnant women should eat for two is history. Regular over-eating during pregnancy or in vitro fertilization can be a source of many health problems for both the mother and the fetus.

HOW MUCH SHOULD PREGNANT WOMEN EAT?

The short answer is „not much more than usual“. This means about 350 extra calories in the second trimester and 450 in the third. This explains why it’s so easy to overeat, especially with cravings for junk food and sweets.

Some people resort to high-calorie foods when stressed. Each IVF cycle is associated with many emotions and expectations. All of this tension can negatively affect both partners‘ psyche, leading to episodes of stress eating.

New studies have shown that omega-6 fatty acids found in greasy and fried foods can cause depression. They have a pro-inflammatory effect on the body, leading to disturbances in the balance of the neurotransmitters responsible for our good mood. Therefore, comfort food makes us more depressed.

RISKS OF EXCESS WEIGHT

At any stage of our lives, we must strive to maintain an optimal weight. During pregnancy, women gain some kilograms. Most of them come from the fetus, the amniotic fluid, and the placenta. Only a small part should be in the form of fat tissue.

Being overweight during pregnancy poses many risks. These include gestational diabetes, leg pain, difficulty walking and development of varicose veins. The fetus also suffers – gestational diabetes leads to high levels of blood sugar and insulin in it. Normal birth for such babies is more traumatic because they are often overweight. There is also an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes at a later stage.

PREVENTION

Prevention of gaining excess weight should begin before you become pregnant (naturally or by assisted reproduction). Very often, obesity with insulin resistance and hormonal imbalance are at the cause for infertility.

There is nothing wrong with some indulgence, as long as it is within normal limits. Eat often, but less to maintain a relatively constant blood sugar level. Keep a diary in which you record what you eat. Do not stop moving and do light workouts after permission from your gynecologist. And do not forget that pregnancy is the time when you have to eat twice as healthy, not twice as much!
