Who do you talk to when going through IVF?

We know some of you often find themselves in a situation where you need someone to talk to about all your feelings and emotions during your fertility journey.

This next article is for you!

Who do you talk to when going through IVF?

When you first started trying to conceive, you probably talked to all the women in your family and all your close female friends about trying to get pregnant, about not getting pregnant, about still not getting pregnant and about seeing a fertility specialist. At one point though, after you’ve had an unsuccessful 1st fertility procedure, for example, you just wish you hadn’t said a thing to anyone about anything. You feel like talking to these people made you feel better at the time but at this point continuing to talk to them about your fertility status just piles on the pressure of the whole situation and you feel this build-up of expectations which makes things even harder for you.

So, how do you get out of this predicament?

The first thing you need to do is to state your boundaries clearly and stick to them. If you don’t want to talk about your infertility diagnosis, let people know. Your fertility plan is your own business. Similarly, it’s important to let go of everyone else’s emotional response to your situation. For instance, if you simply do not feel like going to a family event with a lot of young children or pregnant women, just say so, rather than make yourself go for the sake of what other people would think if you didn’t. It is OK to feel this way! You just need to communicate your feelings so that you are comfortable in your daily life.

However, if you feel like you want to pour out your feelings to someone who will listen patiently, symphatize without being patronizing and give you well-informed advice, then you will benefit from seeing a fertility counselor.

At New Life Fertility Center we are proud to be working with highly qualified gynecologists, embryologists, nursing stuff and a psychologist with a solid background in fertility counselling. If you feel like you need it, do not hesitate to contact us! We have all the tools to support you in your fertility journey!
