IVF with donor eggs – why is it more expensive than regular IVF?

Dear friends,

This is the first article on a topic chosen by you. Thank you for the topic! We hope that the article will be informative for you.

The orderby which the procedure of oocyte

donation is carried out is strictly regulated and detailed in Ordinance 28 for activities related to Assisted Reproduction. According to Ordinance 28 “it is INADMISSIBLE TO PUT PRESSURE OR GIVE FINANCIAL INCENTIVE to potential donors of oocytes by medical staff, potential recipients, friends or relatives.”

“It is possible for oocyte donors to be COMPENSATED WITHIN REASONABLE BOUNDS for costs incurred, including: travel, accommodation and stay, absence from work, cause of discomfort or pain, lost profits, etc.”

Everything outside the boundaries quoted above is in violation of the law.

WHY ARE DONOR EGGS PROCEDURES MORE EXPENSIVE, THEN?

The expenses of clinics/donor banks for the recruitment, selection and consulting of egg donors are considerable. As well the compensation for the donor, these costs include all the medical examinations and preliminary tests before an IVF procedure for both the donor and the recipient. The hormonal stimulation is also more expensive because again both the donor and the recipient are pre-treated with hormones – the former in order to grow a higher number of follicles, containing oocytes, and the latter in order to achieve optimal parameters for embryo implantation and pregnancy. In many cases the donor and the recipient undergo additional manipulations – for example, genetic tests for the donor and hysteroscopy for the recipient.

To an extent the price of a donor egg program depends on the nature of the program in question. If an IVF unit is working with a donor egg bank from abroad, the program is more expensive due to the cost of freezing, transporting and thawing the eggs. The advantages of such a program are that it gives patients the opportunity to choose an egg donor who fulfils all of their requirements (e.g. blood type, height, weight, hair colour, occupation, etc) and that it can start as soon as the patients want.

Day of Reproductive Health

On June 10, 2017 at the Cultural Center “Sea Casino” in Burgas took place the 12th annual Day of Reproductive Health, organized by Association Zachatie in favor of people with reproductive issues.

This year the main focus of the event were the new achievements in reproductive medicine which bring patients closer to their dream of having a child. Specialists from 14 IVF centers took part in the event, one of the being New Life Fertility Center. The event started off with presentations, discussing innovations in the treatment of infertility. After the presentations, patients had the opportunity to consult with top specialists from all over the country completely free of charge.

New Life’s medical director dr. Dobrinka Petrova conducted a number of consultations, answering all the burning questions that patients had for her.

7 questions about New Life’s donor egg program answered

1. Who needs donor eggs?

Women who are unable to produce enough good-quality eggs to achieve an IVF pregnancy due to age or a medical condition and who have not frozen some of their eggs at an earlier point in time have the option of using donor eggs.

2. Why did New Life Fertility Center start its own donor egg program?

We want to help you, our patients, deliver a healthy baby any way we can. For that reason New Life clinic has a collaboration with one of the biggest donor egg banks in Europe. This collaboration gives our egg donation program a number of advantages which you can read about below.

3. How many egg donors can I choose from?

New Life’s program gives patients the opportunity to choose a donor from a long list of donors of various physical characteristics (such as height, weight, natural hair colour and others), pursuing different career paths. Even the most particulate patients can find a donor to match their wishes.

4. Do all egg donors undergo genetic screening?

Yes, all donors undergo genetic screening, conducted by a qualified genetics professional, who obtains the medical history of the donor and her family members.

5. Are egg donors tested?

Yes, all donors are rigorously tested for transmissive and genetic diseases in accordance with the Bulgarian standard of Assisted Reproduction and the European Union Tissue and Cells Directives.

6. Is the program very expensive?

We, at New Life are offering you a package price, which includes everything from compulsory tests prior to the procedure through donor material to fresh and frozen embryo transfer(s) until all the embryos, fertilized and developed from your initial set of eggs have been transferred.

The clinic also offers a compensation scheme in order to share the risk with you and to assure you of the high quality of work and the excellent clinical results. If you would like to receive more detailed information about the program and the pricing, come and talk to us in person!

7. How long would I have to wait to do the procedure?

One of the advantages of our program is that the eggs of all donors are already frozen which allows us more flexibility timewise. Therefore, your procedure starts as soon as you choose an egg donor.
